Electric wheelchair stolen / Fireworks set / Holiday trash collection

 Electric wheelchair stolen – A resident on Shady Grove Lane reported to police that an electric-powered wheelchair was stolen from his driveway. Reports say the wheelchair was in a vehicle waiting to be moved inside when it was stolen. Officers were unable to locate the and did not disclose an estimated value of the unit.

Man nabbed in domestic case – A complaint against a man at the Extended Stay America hotel led to his arrest for domestic battery. Police reports say Anthony Cook, 45, was arrested based on a warrant issued in Lake County.

Another week, another converter stolen – Much like the sparrows come back to Capistrano, another catalytic converter is stolen from a vehicle. The most recent theft occurred June 26 from a vehicle parked at the Extended State America hotel.

More than an accident – A report of a traffic accident led to the arrest of a 55-year-old woman for violating an order-of-protection issued in Winnebago County. Police say Bianca Kelser was held briefly before posting bond for the warrant.

Man dies in crash -- A 63-year-old Niles resident was killed in a single-car crash early Sunday morning. Reports say the resident, Louis C. Matthopoul, was killed in the accident that occurred near Strathmore Court.

July Fourth fireworks set

The village’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks and festivities will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

The festivities include the return of the annual Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band July 4th Concert to be followed by the fireworks display, which will begin at approximately 9:20 p.m.

Police will be closing Lake Cook, Checker and Church roads from approximately 9:15 p.m. until 9:45 p.m. for the event, sponsored by Business IT Source. For more information, including a map, click here.

 

Trash collection on holiday schedule

Due to the holiday, next week's waste and recycling collection will be delayed by one day throughout the week. For more information, click here.

Also, Village Hall will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Normal business hours resume from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5.

 

Special traffic enforcement in effect

The Buffalo Grove Police will conduct a traffic safety enforcement through Tuesday, July 5, to promote safe driving during the Independence Day holiday period.

The traffic campaign, funded by IDOT, seeks to reduce the number of impaired and unbuckled drivers. The Fourth of July holiday is historically one of the deadliest on Illinois roadways and police are working to prevent injuries and fatalities.

 

Schneider seeks funding for D21 health center

                U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-10) has made a request for $1 million for a health center to be located in the new Community Consolidated School District 21 administration building. The project is being constructed on Dundee Road, just east of the current administration building at 900 W. Dundee Rd. in Wheeling.

            The District is building a new Community Service and Administrative Office Center immediately adjacent to its London Middle School. A central anchor of the district, the proposed Federally Qualified Health Center will be housed in an up to 3,500 square foot space located on the ground level


Stevenson Board member quits

David Weisberg, who served three terms as a member of the Dist. 125/Stevenson High School Board, resigned from the post last week; the third to do so since April.

 

Movie night features “Encanto”

            The Park District’s free movie night on July 8 will feature “Encanto,” the story of “the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto.” The movie begins at dusk. The rain date is July 14. Additional information is available here.

            Free movie nights are sponsored by Woodman’s Market, Portillo’s, Waste Management, Buffalo Grove Friends of the Park. Davis & Langefeld Family Dental and Mathnasium.

 

Book sale July 9

The Indian Trails Public Library District will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9. Use of ISBN scanners between 12-2 pm only. The sale will be in the Lake Cook room. The Library is at 355 Schoenbeck Rd., Wheeling.

 

Mediterranean music program topic

The Indian Trails Public Library District is sponsoring a program on Mediterranean music at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5. The presentation highlights the unique folk instruments and captivating music played around the Eastern shores of the Mediterranean.

Presenters Eve Monzingo and George Lawler will detail their adventures in learning this music, traveling to these places and working with Greek, Turkish, Jewish and Middle Eastern communities in the Chicago area.
