Smash and grab probe continues –Buffalo Grove police are continuing to investigate three burglaries to stores in the shopping plaza at Ill. Rt. 22 (Half Day Road) and Buffalo Grove Road that occurred early July 15. According to reports posted by the BGPD, windows were smashed at the Everything Games, 404 W. Half Day Rd., Anandi Fashion, 392 Half Day Rd. and Papa Johns, 384 Half Day Rd. In all three incidents, which were reported at 3:41 a.m., the front window of each business was smashed and cash taken from two of the businesses. Police say more than $100 was taken from Everything Games, more than $1,000 from Anandi Fashion. Reports did not say what, if anything, was taken from Papa John’s.
Retail theft – A man reportedly stole a bottle of vodka from the Walgreens at 1225 W. Dundee Rd. Police say they were able to locate the man and issue an adjudication ticket for retail theft.
E-bike swiped – Police say a resident reported that their electric bicycle was taken from their property in the 800 block of Port Clinton Court. The theft occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on July 15. It was not reported where the bike was when it was taken or if it was secured.
Traffic violations – Buffalo Grove police reported five traffic stops that resulted in 10 charges including no valid driver’s license, child restraint violations, DUI, improper lane use.

Pizza patio, trade school get Board OK
There will be more space to eat pizza at Lou Malnati’s. That’s because the Board Monday night approved a 3,143-square-foot patio at Malnati’s, 85 S. Buffalo Grove Rd. The proposal cleared the Zoning and Planning Commission at its June 18 meeting.
The Village Board Monday night also approved a special use permit for a trade school operated by Astera, 727 Hastings Lane. The firm plans to open Astera Academy to offer hands-on training for those seeking careers in the HVAC and appliance repair industries.
The proposal as approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission at its July 2 meeting.
Jazz band performs tonight
The Buffalo Grove Jazz Band will present a free concert tonight, July 22, at the Dan Schimmel Pavilion at Willow Stream Park. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Willow Stream Park is at 651 Old Checker Rd.
Caffeinate with the Chief
Police Chief Brian Budds will host his next “Chat with the Chief” from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 23 from 10 a.m. - noon at Dunkin', 1165 McHenry Road.
Park input sought
The Buffalo Grove Park District is hosting another Community Input Meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23 at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Dr. Residents can learn about the progress of current Park District projects and share their vision and input for future ones. Clove park concepts topic of meeting
Ideas for the planned park at The Clove will be discussed from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. The event will be led by Village staff in partnership with landscape architects from WRT Planning + Design.
Community members are encouraged to stop by at any time during the two-hour window to share their ideas and help envision a central gathering space that reflects the community’s values, interests, and spirit. Additional information is available here.
Culver’s hosting fundraiser for library
The Culver’s at 450 McHenry Rd. in Buffalo Grove and at 405 Milwaukee Ave., Lincolnshire, are raising money for the Indian Trails Library through Wednesday, July 23. Culver's will donate 25% of group sales to the Foundation for the Indian Trails Public Library.
All proceeds benefit the library. Participants should show this flyer when they place their order.
Cops collecting school supplies
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is collecting school supplies to support local elementary and middle school students in Districts 21, 96, and 102 for the upcoming school year.
Items can be dropped off 24 hours a day in the collection box in the Police Department lobby, 46 Raupp Boulevard through Friday, Aug. 8.
Among the items needed are: notebooks (spiral, wide ruled, 70 pages), crayons (tuck 24/box, large 8/box), glue sticks (Elmers, purple, washable, small or large), markers (Crayola 8/set, large, regular, wide tip or fine tip) and No. 2 Pencils / Colored Pencils (12/set or 24/set)
The department is also seeking rulers (12-inch standard), paint sets (Crayola, washable, 8 color w/brush), lunch boxes and backpacks.

Shredding event Aug. 2
Vernon Township is hosting a free shredding event from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 2. Residents are invited to safely dispose of documents such as canceled or unused checks, old bills, insurance policies, medical records and invoices.
Each household is limited to three medium-sized boxes. It’s important to note that magazines, newspapers, manila or hanging file folders, binders and x-rays will not be accepted. On-site shredding will be available. However, if the truck reaches capacity, locked containers will be provided for secure drop-off. Chamber plans young professional event
The Young Professional Group of the Buffalo Grove Lincolnshire (BGL) Chamber of Commerce is holding its next event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at ISI Elite Training, 804 Milwaukee Ave., Deerfield.
The Young Professional Group consists of 20- to 40-year-old members of BGL and the Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce.
Their goal is to foster the development and connection of young professionals and aspiring professionals in southern Lake County and northern Cook County.
