Recent police activity:
The following items were recently posted by the Buffalo Grove Police
** Purse snatching -- A purse was stolen from a shopping cart while the victim was putting away groceries in her vehicle, in the parking lot of Garden Fresh Market, 770 S. Buffalo Grove Rd.
** Disorderly Conduct – A driver told police that a male driver flashed a gun at him after he did not stop at a stop sign in the parking lot, this investigation is ongoing at 70 McHenry Rd. The investigation is continuing.
** Bike Swiped -- A bicycle was stolen from the bike rack near the Jewel at 79 McHenry Rd.
** Juiced up – Police put the squeeze on a woman who stole a bottle of juice worth $2.64 from Woodman’s Market. Police issued an adjudication citation for retail theft and trespass warning.
** Still unwanted -- A male subject was issued a trespass adjudication citation after being previously issued a trespass warning to not enter Woodman’s Market.
** No ignition lock – A Palatine man was charged with four traffic violations including a felony charge for driving on a revoked driver’s license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without an ignition lock device and a child restraint violation
** Packages stolen – Police report that A female subject stole two Amazon packages from the building at 175 Lake Blvd.
** Retail Theft -- A woman allegedly stole alcohol from Ricky Rockets, 700 E. Lake-Cook Rd., on several occasions. The investigation is ongoing.
** Criminal Damage to Property -- Police report that “unknown subjects” vandalized the vacant Burger King’s interior and exterior. The building is located at 60 McHenry Rd.
** Criminal Damage to Property -- A driver reported that the passenger-side window of their car was shattered while parked in the Bowlero parking lot, 350 McHenry Rd.
** Theft from Motor Vehicle -- Police say a clarinet was stolen from a vehicle, while it was parked in an apartment complex parking lot at 1201 E. Deerfield Pkwy. The investigation is ongoing.
** Pizza theft – Police report that a man bolted from Giordano’s 27 McHenry Rd., without paying for his pizza. Police were able to locate the subject and issue an adjudication theft citation and trespass warning. Reports did not say if the pizza was thin crust or stuffed.
In Other Community News
Lake-Cook roadwork nearing completion
Construction on Lake-Cook Road is entering its final phases according to a spokesperson for the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways.
The project, divided into three sections, has different timelines.
Section 1, from IL-53 to Arlington Heights Road, was targeted for completion by Sept. 15. Sawing and sealing were scheduled to be completed last week, while landscaping, detector loops and pavement markings will be completed by the end of the week of Sept.15.
Section 2 of the project, which is from Hastings Drive to Milwaukee Avenue) has landscaping set to be completed by the end of the week of Sept.15, with sawing and sealing by the end of the week of Sept. 29. Detector loops and pavement markings will be completed by the end of the week of Oct. 6.
The third second, at the intersection of Wilmot Road, was targeted to have detector loops and pavement markings completed by end of the week of Sept. 8, with landscaping completed by the week of Sept.15.
Public safety open house Sept. 20
The annual Public Safety Open House, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Fire Station 26, 1051 Highland Grove Drive
The event will feature, touch-a-truck opportunities as well as hands-on activities. There will also be demonstrations beginning with a vehicle extrication demo at 11 a.m., tactical rescue demonstration at 11:30 a.m., and a live fire demonstration at noon.
Lunch will be available for purchase from Wiener Take All during the event.
Input sought on event, programming plan
Residents can provide their input into an Events and Programming Study and Plan being done by the village and Keen Independent Research at two interactive community meetings on Sunday and Monday, September 21 and 22 from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 24 at the Alcott Center 530 Bernard Drive.
Attendees are invited to come and go as they please during the two-hour timeframe at each session. A brief presentation outlining is planned, but interactive activity stations can be visited throughout the entire event.
Residents unable to attend can submit their thoughts by completing an online questionnaire at this link. Survey participants will have the option to enter a drawing for one of three $50 gift cards. The survey closes Oct.19.
Civics Forum Sept. 29
Students from Buffalo Grove and Stevenson high schools will take to the dais Sept. 29 as part of the village’s annual civics forum.
The students will assume the roles of Village Board members and village staff and will discuss and debate proposals from village departments.
In addition to running the Village Board meeting, the students will spend the day conferring with village staff and department heads about their proposals and department operations.
The program was started in the early 1980s as “Student Government Day,” the event became the Civics Forum in 2016. It’s a pet project of Village Clerk Jan Sirabian, who says it’s “No. 1 on my list of what I love about my job,” adding that not only does she “love working with the students”, but the Forum gives her the opportunity to impress upon students the importance of local civic engagement because it directly “affects the quality of life” in the village.
“Being involved and taking pride is what makes a community great,” Sirabian said.
The Forum begins at 7 p.m.
BGPD plans bowling fundraiser
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is hosting a night of bowling at Bowlero to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes on Friday, Sept. 19.
The $40 Admission includes entry into raffle drawings, two hours of bowling, shoe and lane rentals, two slices of pizza and unlimited soft drinks.

BG singers perform Friday & Saturday
The BG Singers will celebrate their 30th Anniversary season with a concert, “Reprise,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Both concerts are at the Community Arts Center, 225 N. McHenry Rd.
This fully costumed and choreographed production will feature 21 songs chosen by last year’s audience and the singers themselves.
Tickets for the performance are available at this link below or at the Alcott Center during regular business hours. Tickets for seniors (ages 62 and up) and children (ages 12 and under) are $16, and tickets for adults are $18. For more information, contact Lindsay Grandt at 847-850-2132.
‘Green Fair’ Sunday
The annual Buffalo Grove Green Fair, sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Environmental Action Team, is from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, September 21 from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. during the Buffalo Grove Farmers Market at Mike Rylko Community Park, 951 McHenry Road. Residents can bring a wide variety of items to be donated for proper reuse and recycling.
