Additional information about the Interfaith Council and the iWalk can be found here.

Free shredding event Saturday

Four state legislators are hosting a free shredding day tomorrow, June 25, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Grove Golf Dome, 801 McHenry Rd.

Sponsored by State Senator Adriane Johnson (D-30), State Senator Julie Morrison (D-29), State Representative Jonathan Carroll (D-57) and State Representative Daniel Didech (D-59), the event gives residents the opportunity to shred sensitive documents.

Persons bringing items are asked to  remove all staples and paper clips. Contactless drop off is available. Boxes of documents can be placed in the vehicle's trunk, and staff will be on hand to remove them and close the trunk.

In addition to paper, residents can also dispose of small electronics such as desktop PCs, servers, computer mice, cables & accessories, gaming devices, keyboards, copiers, fax machines, printers, scanners, mobile/smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, and cameras.

Town Center redevelopment gets green light

With little surprise, but a lot of fanfare, the Village Board June 20 gave final approval for the redevelopment of Town Center. To be known as “The Clove,” the redevelopment will feature restaurants, retail, a major grocery store and apartments. According to ordinances approved at the Board meeting, the development is in a Tax Increment Fund district. Also, the agreements approved by the Board require 90 percent of the project to be completed in four years.

So far, three tenants have agreed to join “The Clove.” They are Chick-Fil-A and Guzman Y Garcia, an Australian-based Mexican restaurant chain. The grocery store has not been identified. Information about redevelopment in the village is available here.

Gas tax relief?

President Joe Biden Wednesday called for a “Gas Tax Holiday” in an effort to provide a break in record-high gas taxes. The state of Illinois, Cook County and Lake County have not instituted such a plan and it does not appear likely that the village will either. The village has a $0.02 cent per gallon flat tax.

Officials say that since gas-tax revenues are earmarked to “service debt associated with the Infrastructure Modernization Program, there has not been any consideration to remove or reduce the gas tax.” Buffalo Grove is monitoring gas prices in neighboring communities and have found them “competitive.”

The village received  $421.500 from the gas tax in 2020, $486,775 in 2021 and estimate as of June 6 that 2022 receipts will be roughly $485,000.
