New traffic flow set in Arlington Heights Road work zone
The rebuilding of Arlington Heights Road will undergo a major shift this week when traffic will be moved to the recently completed lanes on the west side of the roadway.
Most landscape restoration has been completed on the west side, and Checker west of Arlington Heights Road was paved. Work on sidewalks and landscaping should be completed on the west side so that traffic can be moved to the new lanes on Wednesday, July 9.
After the traffic is flipped, pavement removal and storm sewer will begin in the east lanes. Motorists should drive with caution on the new lanes as they had to be modified using temporary asphalt to adjust for the grade differences between the new road and the old road. Important Note:
The Stage 3 traffic flow northbound at IL Rt.83 will go to only one lane available for left, straight and right movements which will slow northbound traffic. Drivers should consider alternate routes. The project team will analyze the flow at that intersection after the sewer and pavement work is complete to see if additional lanes can be opened to traffic.
Above Left: Traffic will move to the new lanes on the west side. Above right: New sidewalks on the west side of Arlington Heights Road.
