Burglary probed – Buffalo Grove police are continuing
their investigation into a burglary at the Subway restaurant at 1008 Weiland
Road. Reports say the offenders smashed the front picture window of the store
and removed a cash register from the business. Police did not report how much
cash was taken.
Park vandalized – Police say a small area of turf at
Green Lake Park was burned through unknown means. This investigation is
ongoing.
Retail theft – A man received an adjudication ticket
for retail theft or stealing approximately $60 worth of groceries from
Woodman’s Market, 1550 E. Deerfield Pkwy.
Domestic battery – A 42-year-old Buffalo Grove man is
due in court on July 1 facing charges of domestic battery after his arrest for
an incident July 30 in the 0 – 90 block of east Fox Hill Dr.
Traffic arrests – Police report seven people were
charged with various traffic violations including driving on suspended
licenses, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, using an
electronic communication device while driving, failure to wear a seatbelt,
failure to display a front license plate and driving with an inoperable
headlight or taillight.
Monthly update – Buffalo Grove police listed 170
incidents from May 31 through June 30. Included in the monthly activity were:
** Three
reports of battery
** Seven reports
of criminal damage to property
** Four reports
of disorderly conduct, which includes harassment by electronic devices or
phones.
** One
weapons violation.

Park input meeting July 29
An interactive design workshop focusing on the planned park for The Clove from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. The event will be led by Village staff in partnership with landscape architects from WRT Planning + Design.
Community members are encouraged to stop by at any time during the two-hour window to share their ideas and help envision a central gathering space that reflects the community’s values, interests, and spirit. Additional information is available here.
Museum honored
The Raupp Museum received bronze level certification in all five areas of the STEPS (Standards and Excellence Program) for History Organizations.

July Fourth enforcement results
The Buffalo Grove Police Department (BGPD) reported that four arrests and 105 citations were issued during the recent Fourth of July “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” and “Click it or Ticket” safety campaigns that ran from June 20 to July 7. Citations included 54 seat belt violations, 10 tickets for speeding, six for distracted driving and 35 other citations.
The safety campaigns are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). These efforts are complemented by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which emphasizes the serious consequences of impaired driving and other unsafe driving behaviors.
Chamber networking lunch set
The Buffalo Grove-Lincolnshire (BGL) Chamber of Commerce is holding a network lunch at Lazy Dog, 51 McHenry Rd., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 5.
This event is open to Chamber members and non-members. Lazy Dog is providing four menu options at a special price. The registration fee covers the meal and soft drink or iced tea, tax and gratuity.
Cost is $25 for BGL and Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods Chamber Members; $35 for non-Members

Vernon Library gets grant
The Vernon Area Public Library District will receive $65,203.85 through the Illinois Public Library Per Capita Grant program.
The program provides annual funding to support local public library services. This year, libraries were allocated just under $1.50 per resident in their service area. Funds may be used for operational needs, including purchasing books and other materials or making capital improvements.

BGHS grad scholarship winner
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation recently named Daniel Vivas, winner of a Jeffrey P. Moroney Scholarship. He is a graduate of Buffalo Grove High School and is preparing to launch a career as an HVAC technician through Harper College.
The scholarship is for Dist. 214 students who aspire to attend trade school. This is the third year the foundation has offered this scholarship.– Journal & Topics
Former trustee dies
Long Grove Trustee Roberta “Bobbie” O’Reilly, whose political career began in the late 1970s and included stints on the Buffalo Grove Village Board and the Lake County Board, died July 8 at age 80. Details about her career can be found in this Daily Herald report.
Park District has updated software
The Park District has launched SmartRec, a new registration software program. In addition to simplifying the registration process, it also has a mobile app that will make it easier for remote registration.
Residents are encouraged to set up their family’s account on SmartRec. The new system is in place for fall registration that will begin Tuesday, July 29 for In-District residents. Registration for fall programs will not be possible until an account is set up.

Summer concert series continues Thursday
The next concert in the Park District’s summer concert series is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17 featuring Karla & the Phat Cats at the Mike Rylko Community Park Amphitheater,1000 N. Buffalo Grove Rd.
A food truck from Cousins Maine Lobster will be parked nearby for those who want to purchase dinner. Beer, wine, and water will also be available for purchase at concessions. Attendees may bring food and nonalcoholic beverages to the park; however, alcohol must be purchased at concessions as carry-in alcohol is not permitted.
