The following incidents were made available by the Buffalo Grove Police Department on June 18
· Battery -- Officers responded to a report of a road rage incident in the parking lot of Sky Fitness, 1501 Busch Parkway on June 12. Reports say that while stopped behind a man on a motorcycle who refused to move from the intersection, the victim honked to get his attention. In response, the offender got off the motorcycle, reached into their vehicle, struck the driver on the head, and grabbed the passenger’s hands while shouting offensive remarks. The offender was gone on arrival. After conducting an investigation, the subject was identified and arrested for battery.
· Accidental Damage To Property -- A resident in the 1400 Block of Johnson told police that they found damage done to the driver’s side body of the vehicle. No items were disturbed or taken from the vehicle on June 11.
· Theft -- A resident in the 300 Block of Blue Ash Drive told police on June 12 that a person opened the victim’s package from the USPS and removed the merchandise inside valued at $280. 6/12/2025 1:27 PM
· Retail Theft – Police report that a woman allegedly stole flowers with a minimum value of $32 from Woodman’s Market, 1525 Deerfield Parkway. The woman was identified, apologized for the misunderstanding, and paid for the items.
· Retail Theft – Police report that a man stole 10 bottles of Grey Goose Vodka with an estimated value of $350 on June 15. This investigation is ongoing.
· Criminal Damage to Property -- Police report that a resident in the 1400 Block of Johnson Drive found damage to the sliding glass rear door of their home. No items were disturbed or taken from the home. This investigation is ongoing.

Concert, fireworks on tap for July Fourth
The village’s Fourth of Celebration will take place at Willow Stream Park starting with a performance by the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band at 7 p.m. followed by the fireworks display, sponsored by Christopher B Burke Engineering, at 9 p.m.

Firefighter of the year selected
Manka was lauded for his work as a mentor to new members of the Fire Department. He has also served as vice president of Buffalo Grove Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Local 1377.
He began his career in firefighting in 2013 and joined the Buffalo Grove Fire Department in 2017.
Cops hope you’ll ‘Stuff the Squad’
Buffalo Grove Police Officers will be collecting food donations from 10 to noon on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. - noon at Woodman's, 1550 Deerfield Parkway, a part of its “Stuff the Squad” campaign to collect food for area food pantries. Residents can bring non-perishable food items or toiletries and help support are residents in need.
Memory Café set for Thursday
The June Memory Café, a program that offers individuals with memory loss and their caregiver an opportunity for connection and conversation will be at 2 p.m. on June 26. This month's activity will feature an art project. The event will be at the Park District’s Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive.
The Memory Café program is sponsored by Belmont Village Senior Living Buffalo Grove, Sedgebrook Senior Living, Buffalo Grove Community Foundation, Buffalo Grove Park District, Buffalo Grove Police Department, Indian Trails Public Library, Sunrise Senior Living Buffalo Grove, and Vernon Area Public Library. Blood drive Friday
A Community Blood Drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27 at Fire Station 26, 1051 Highland Grove Drive.
Donors are required to provide an ID, and the entire blood donation process takes about one hour.

Four BG students winners in Metra contest
Four students from Buffalo Grove were among the winners in Metra’s 18th Annual Safety Contest. This year’s theme was “See Tracks? Stay Back.”
The four winners are:

Residents purchasing or leasing an electric vehicle and plan on having a charging port at their residence, need to have a building permit before the charging port is installed.

Holiday traffic enforcement set
Like the swallows come back to Capistrano, the Buffalo Grove Police will participate in a holiday period traffic enforcement.
The BGPD will step up enforcement for the Fourth of July holiday with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The safety campaign, running from June 20 through July 7, encompasses three summer weekends leading up to and following the holiday.
The Buffalo Grove police will join Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriffs’ departments for the statewide effort. To celebrate safely, designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive impaired.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The enforcement efforts are complemented by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which emphasizes the serious consequences of impaired driving and other unsafe driving behaviors.
Pizza patio pending
The Planning and Zoning Commission June 18 unanimously approved plans for a 3,143-square-foot patio at Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, 85 S. Buffalo Grove Rd.
According to reporting in the Daily Herald, “the new dining area would feature landscape planters, umbrellas and outdoor heaters to extend the season.”
Village Board approval could come at the next regular Village Board meeting on July 21.
BG Road topic of meeting
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) is proposing the reconstruction of a 1.2 mile stretch of Buffalo Grove Road from Weiland Road in Buffalo Grove to Hintz Road in Arlington Heights. The project is in the planning phases, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
CCDOTH will hold an informational meeting and open house to collect community feedback and share project details from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard.

New village engineer named
Briget Schwab has been named the new village engineer. She joined the Buffalo Grove Public Works Department in January as assistant village engineer, She has more than 22 years of experience in civil engineering. Additional information about Schwab’s career can be found here.
JCC program to feature movie music
JCC Chicago and the Council for Jewish Elderly are sponsoring Sensational Songs of the Silver Screen 3 with John LeGear on July 3 at the Vernon Township Community Service Building 2900 N. Main St.
The free program, which is open to the public, begins at noon with lunch and socializing. The program starts at 12:30 p.m. This program is for adults over 18.
