Weapons, drug violations -- A 21-year-old Buffalo Grove man was charged with a violation of the concealed carry act for trying to enter a prohibited place where firearms are prohibited in addition to possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of cannabis. All of the items were in his vehicle which was located in the parking lot at Buffalo Grove High School. The man did not enter the building.
Retail Theft – Police are investigating theft at the Walgreens, 15 N Buffalo Grove Rd. where reports say a female entered the business and stole multiple cosmetic items. The total value of loss is $294.
Criminal Damage to Property -- Police report thar two windows on a vehicle parked at a home in the 800 block of Miller Lane were damaged were damaged by what police say appeared to be pellet “BB’’ gun

Village names first woman Deputy Chief
Police Commander Tara Anderson was promoted Deputy Chief of Police during the June 16 Village Board meeting.
A 25-year veteran of the Buffalo Grove Police Department (BGPD), Anderson is the first woman in the Village’s history to be a Deputy Chief.
Anderson began her career with BGPD in 2000 as a desk officer and was sworn in as a police officer in 2001. She was promoted to sergeant in 2014, lieutenant in 2017, and commander in 2024.
Anderson holds a master’s degree from DePaul University and is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute and Northwestern University’s School of Police Sta. and Command. She is also a recipient of the Northwestern University Public Safety Executive Leadership Award and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police’s (ILACP) Rising Shields of Law Enforcement Award. She currently serves as Vice Co-Chair and a founding member of the ILACP Women’s Leadership Section.

Marchers, businesses sought for BG days
· Registration open for parade
Registration for the 2025 Buffalo Grove Days Parade is now open This year’s parade is Saturday, August 30 on Buffalo Grove Road and Deerfield Parkway, concluding at Mike Rylko Community Park where the rest of the festival activities are held. Staging begins at 9:30 a.m., while the parade steps off at 11:30 a.m. It’s free to participate for community groups, and $100 to march as a business. The Buffalo Grove / Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce is seeking businesses and organizations to participate in its “Main Street Business Fair” at BG Days.
Meet Me on Main Street will be open from Friday, Aug. 29 through Sunday, Aug. 31.
The chamber is offering some new opportunities this year. Previously vendors paid for three days of space, regardless if they had staff or time to support all three days. Now, vendors have the option to select a booth for one, two or three days.
The Chamber has also added a “Gift Bag” opportunity. When visitors arrive at the Chamber booth, adults will receive a Chamber-branded reusable shopping bag. Vendors can add their branded marketing item to the bag.

Police holding “Meet the BGPD Beat” events
Residents have a chance to connect with the officers who patrol the village at two “Meet the BGPD Beat” events. The first will be from 6 to 7 pm. On Friday, June 20 near the Spray ‘N Play at Mike Rylko Park, 951 McHenry Rd., with the second from 10 - 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 at the Prairie View Metra station, 2701 N. Main Street, as part of the Vernon Twp. Community Garage Sale
At both events, residents will have the opportunity to discuss local crime trends, share community concerns, and learn about the services offered by the BGPD.
D21 offers “Seamless Summer”
District 21 has started its “Seamless Summer” program that offers free meals to all children 18 and under.
The program runs 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily through Friday, Aug. 8. There is no service on June 19; July 4, 11, 18 and 25. No registration or ID is required.

Cook County eyes BG Road project
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) is proposing the reconstruction of a 1.2 mile stretch of Buffalo Grove Road from Weiland Road in Buffalo Grove to Hintz Road in Arlington Heights. The project is the planning phases, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
CCDOTH will hold an informational meeting and open house to collect community feedback and share project details from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard.

Water restrictions in effect
Residents are reminded that from May 15 - September 15, sprinkling and watering is prohibited between the hours of noon and 6 p.m., and should be done on odd or even numbered days corresponding to your home address.

BGPD part of Rt. 21 enforcement
The Buffalo Grove Police Department will join a coordinated one-day traffic safety initiative today, Tuesday, June 17.
Officers will partner with law enforcement agencies across northern Illinois to enhance roadway safety along the Route 21 corridor.
Buffalo Grove officers will focus enforcement efforts on Speeding, Distracted driving, Seatbelt violations and other reckless or hazardous behaviors
Other agencies participating in the initiative include the Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Riverwoods, and Gurnee Police Departments, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police.
Food Truck Fest June 28
The 2025 Fire Up! Food Truck Festival is from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at Mike Rylko Community Park, 951 N. McHenry Rd. Sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Local 3177, the event raises money to support Project Fire Buddies.
Junior Police Academy starts June 23
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is offering its Junior Police Academy from June 23 - 27 at the Buffalo Grove Police Department, 46 Raupp Boulevard. Through this week-long program, students will learn about police work through hands-on activities with members of the BGPD. Registration is open to incoming 4th - 6th graders who live in or attend school in Buffalo Grove.

Fremont reopens
The reconfiguration of the intersection of Fremont Way and Arlington Heights Road is completed. Drivers can now make turns from Arlington Heights Road onto Fremont. As part of the reconfiguration, drivers can no longer make a left turn from Fremont to northbound Arlington Heights Road.

Spray 'N Play open
The Spray ‘N Play at Mike Rylko Park is now open.
Enhancements to the revamped facility include a revamped color scheme, new in-ground and above-ground spray features, updated perimeter fencing, and padded floor tiles in the play area. Construction of the concession building is ongoing.
