August reports listed: Police filed 156 reports between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31. Included were two reports of battery, six cases of criminal damage to property and 13 thefts. Five of the thefts were reported in the 1500 block of Deerfield Parkway. Thefts could be from a retail business or individual.
Recent police activity:
The following items were recently posted by the Buffalo Grove Police
Thefts –
** A male suspect allegedly stole numerous items from Woodman’s Market. The items were valued at $49.95.
** A male subject stole a bottle of wine from Woodman’s Market.
** A resident in the 900 block of Thornton Blvd. told police they accidentally left their bicycle in the driveway and later discovered that it was missing.
Damage to vehicle
** A vehicle owner parked in the 700 block of Corporate Grove Drive reported to police that they found their back window shattered. Speculation is it may have been caused by a rock ejected from a lawn mower.
Trespassing
** Three subjects and a dog were found sleeping inside the Metra train station after hours, all three subjects were given trespass warnings and left the station. The dog was not charged.
Disorderly conduct
** A male subject was issued an adjudication citation for disorderly conduct/disturbing the peace in the 1300 block of Rose Blvd.
** An intoxicated male subject was inside the Jewel at 79 McHenry Rd. threatening to hit customers. An adjudication citation for disorderly conduct was issued.
Accidental damage
** A lawn sprinkler may have been damaged when concrete was poured for new sidewalks.
In Other Community News
No issues found at pond
Inspections by the Department of Public Works have not found contamination of a pond near Pritchett Elementary School.
The concerns were posted on social media after posters said they found “3 sick ducks and 10 dead ducks in the water. There is a suspicion of botulism (not yet confirmed).”
According to DPW staff, they “…did not find signs of an illicit discharge when inspecting the pond.” DPW staff did not observe any additional fish, waterfowl or birds that were impacted by any toxic materials.
DPW officials said they respond “immediately when there is a concern of an illicit discharge within our stormwater systems.” Through the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System ) permit, our staff is trained yearly on Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination.
BG Singers plan anniversary concert
The BG Singers will celebrate their 30th Anniversary season with a concert, “Reprise,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Both concerts are at the Community Arts Center, 225 N. McHenry Rd.
This fully costumed and choreographed production will feature 21 songs chosen by last year’s audience and the singers themselves.

One card, two libraries
Residents now have access to both the Vernon Area Library and the Indian Trails Public Library.

BGPD plans bowling fundraiser
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is hosting a night of bowling at Bowlero to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes on Friday, Sept. 19.
The $40 Admission includes entry into raffle drawings, two hours of bowling, shoe and lane rentals, two slices of pizza and unlimited soft drinks.

Food pantry needs cereal
The Vernon Township Food Pantry is in urgent need of cereal. Pantry officials say cereal is a nutritious staple for many of the families it serves.
Donations may be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Township office, 3050 Main St., or left anytime in the donation cart outside. Click here for more information.
Blood drive Thursday
Vernon Township is teaming up with State Rep. Daniel Didech (D-59) and the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Community Service Building, 2900 N. Main St. Appointments can be scheduled at redcrossblood.org.
Shredding events set
A pair of shredding events are being held Sept. 13 and Sept. 15.
On Sept. 13, the village is hosting its annual document destruction event in partnership with Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County from 9 a.m. – noon at the Buffalo Grove Metra Station, 825 Commerce Court. Documents should be placed in either paper shopping bags or file-size boxes for disposal. There is a limit six bags or boxes per vehicle. Additional information is available here..
On Sept. 15, Vernon Township is hosting a community shredding event from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Township’s administration building, 3050 Main St.
This free event gives residents a secure way to dispose of sensitive documents such as old checks, insurance papers, medical records, bills, and invoices. Each household may bring up to three medium-sized boxes of materials. Magazines, manila folders, and binders will not be accepted. Additional details are available at this link.
Park Plans
Grand opening for new skate park
The Park District will celebrate the opening of the new skate park at Mike Rylko Park from noon to 1:30 on Saturday, Sept. 13. The free event will give skaters a chance to try out the ramps, rails, and bowls. The event will also include demos and giveaways. For more information, contact Mike Pfeiffer at 847-850-2108.
Huck Finn Fishing Derby
The Park District will host its annual Huck Finn Fishing Derby from 5 to 7 p.m. at Reiner Park, 1101 Green Knolls Dr. Awards and raffle prizes will be given. School News
D21 students gain access to Library
District 21 is partnering with Indian Trails Library to ensure every student can enjoy the benefits of a library card.
The new program gives students access to books, digital resources, and in-person or online learning opportunities. Families can register by Sept. 19, giving consent for the district to securely share student information with the library. Cards will be distributed during the first trimester. New cards will replace existing ones. Parents or guardians remain responsible for borrowed materials.
Vaccine deadline approaching
District 21’s exclusionary date is Oct. 15 for students who do not have the required immunizations and health records on file. Students who do not, will not be able to attend school until those requirements are met.
Families can use the District 21 Health Center, for affordable access to required physicals, immunizations, and other health services.
Board member vacancy in D21
With the resignation of School Board Member Dagmara Kalinowski, the D21 Board of Education is in the process of filling the vacancy.
District residents interested in serving in the Board, may complete an in accordance with the following qualifications. Applicants must be:
** A citizen of the United States
** At least 18 years of age
** A resident of the state of Illinois and of CCSD21 for at least one year prior to appointment
** A registered voter
Interested residents should complete the application at this link by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and submit it to district21@ccsd21.org or drop it off at the district offices at 959 W. Dundee Road in Wheeling.
District gets grant
School District 21 has received $415,500 in new grants to support the its health center, District officials say the grant will ensure students and staff of having continued access to critical medical and mental health services.
The funding, which includes $408,000 from the Illinois Department of Public Health and $7,500 from The Clorox Company, will help keep the school-based health center open year-round.
