DUI charges filed after accident -- A 52-year-old Buffalo Grove woman is facing multiple charges after police report that the car she was driving struck a tree in the 400 block of Ferndale Court. During their investigation, police say the woman was showing signs of alcohol impairment. She was charged with DUI, transporting of an open alcohol container, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Man charged in domestic incident – A 46-year-old was charged with domestic battery and interfering with reporting of domestic violence following an incident Feb. 23. Reports say a woman said she had an altercation with the man which led to the charges.
Bag switching leads to retail theft -- Police were summoned to Woodman’s Market after a woman was observed removing items from the .99-cent reduced produce bags and putting different items in the bag. Reports say she went to the self-checkout line and paid $58.34. She then reportedly walked outside of the store and was stopped by store officials. The items were rescanned and found to have a total value $159.32. The woman was issued an adjudication ticket for retail theft and a trespass warning.
Tires slashed – A resident in the 100 block of Johnson Drive told police her vehicle's tires were slashed. Reports say all four tires were slashed and there was evidence of slash marks on two tires.

Student-run charity helping women
Four area students have formed a non-profit organization that strives to educate and provide supplies to women in underprivileged areas. Their goal? To provide “sanitary pads to 500 million individuals in underprivileged populations while also promoting menstrual health education, sensitization, and de-stigmatization campaigns related to menstruation.” The complete story of “Every 28 Days” can be found here.
Early voting starts
Early voting for the March 19 primary is under way in both Cook and Lake counties. Voters interested in voting by mail have until March 14 to request a mail ballot. Both counties are looking for residents to service as election judges.

Vendors sought for “Senior Expo”
The Park District is looking for local businesses interested in connecting with area senior citizens by participating in the Senior Expo on April 16. The event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., provides a one-stop shop for seniors to interact with vendors and service providers, enabling them to become familiar with the wide range of services. Citizen Police Academy accepting applications
Registration is open for the Citizen Police Academy that runs on Wednesday nights from March 13 to May 8.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about crime scene processing, traffic enforcement, firearms safety and more alongside the men and women of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Additional information and an application are available at this link.
Hydrant flushing begins next week
Public Works crews will kick off their annual hydrant flushing program. Crews are starting early this year to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. Flushing generally starts on hydrants located in the north side of the village moving south. Flush is likely to conclude in April as the weather and scheduling allows.
Hydrant improves residual disinfectant in our water mains while simultaneously allowing crews to check flows, ensuring hydrants are functioning properly. Find more information including a live map here.
Golf fundraiser April 19
The Friends of the Parks Foundation is a sponsoring “Happy Hour Golf” fundraiser from 6 - 8:30 pm on April 19 at the Park District’s Golf Dome, 801 McHenry Rd. Cost is $30 per person. The event includes golf contests with prizes, light appetizers and raffle prizes. Beer and wine available for purchase. Participants can bring their own golf clubs; however, clubs will be available.
All proceeds will benefit the Foundation’s fee assistance program for active military families, and families in need.
Aptakisic Road construction continues
Lake County officials say warm winter weather has allowed work to continue on Aptakisic Road. Utility work is ongoing as gas mains are being removed and replaced on the south side of Aptakisic Road.

"Newcomer's nights" set
New to the village? You may want to attend Newcomer's Night at the Raupp Museum. This free, all-ages event is an opportunity for new residents to learn all about Buffalo Grove. Newcomer's Nights are scheduled from 6 - 8 p.m. March 21, April 25 and May 23.
