2 charged in road rage / Feds fund village / Library OK's plan

 ISP charge two -- After a two-month investigation, two Buffalo Grove men face attempted murder charges in what authorities are describing as a road-rage shooting on Route 53 in Palatine. The Daily Herald reports that Illinois State Police arrested Malik Sutherland, 20, and Victor Ponce, 20, into the Jan. 17 shooting.  Full details are here.

Retail burglary –  Police report that officers responded to an alarm at Dev Liquors, 1170 McHenry Road. Upon arrival, reports say officers observed two vehicles pulling out of the parking lot. Officers pursued the vehicles at a high rate of speed on McHenry Road, but, say reports, were unable to apprehend them. Reports say the front window of the store was smashed and items inside were in disarray. Robbery investigated / Bob McNeely remembered / Green 53?

  Robbery – Police are continuing their investigation into a robbery in the 1200 Block of Johnson Drive. Reports say the victim told police he was robbed while exiting his vehicle while it was parked in a parking space near his residence. The victim, who was not seriously injured, said two male subjects dressed in hoodies took personal items from him. Police say the two left the scene in a black SUV before they arrived. Theft – A resident in the 400 block of Raphael told police – that a battery was stolen from her front lawn. She told police she saw an unknown male grab the battery and leave in a gray pickup truck. Theft – Police say a resident in the 10 block of Canterbury Lane told them that a woman walked up to the door of a residence and took a package that had been delivered. Retail thefts – A 35-year-old Arlington Heights woman was charged with two felony counts of retail theft after she allegedly stole more than $300 of goods from Woodman’s on two separate occasions

  Retail theft – Staff members at the Jewel-Osco at 79 N. McHenry Rd. reported to police that an unknown man made off with   $867.71 worth of merchandise. Employees said the man was wearing black and white shoes, blue jeans, a black jacket, a blue mask, and a red and white cap. He reportedly came into the store around 9:30 p.m. and placed a two-liter bottle of soda into a shopping cart and then continued to walk around the store. Reports say police were told the man started taking over-the-counter medication items and placing them into a reusable bag near the rear of the cart. He allegedly placed 29 items into the reusable bag before proceeding to the self-checkout where he only paid for the soda with cash before exiting the store. Battery -- A 42-year-old man was charged with battery after an incident on McHenry Road. Police did not release details.
