Vehicle break-ins -- Buffalo Grove police continue their investigations into a series of motor vehicle break-ins during the past few weeks.
According to reports, two cars were broken into at the Villa Verde apartment complex on March 21. In both cases vehicle owners said the glove box and center consoles were open and contents strewn around the vehicles. Both incidents appeared to happen overnight.
Police say three incidents were reported on Crestview Terrace on March 23. In the first, reports say they responded to a report of a “criminal trespass to vehicle” in progress. Reports say a resident told them she witnessed several subjects enter and exit her vehicle. Nothing was taken from her vehicle.
Reports say officers spotted a vehicle matching the description and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. According to police, the four occupants of the vehicle were wearing hooded sweatshirts and black face masks.
A short time later, police say officers were conducting a “neighborhood canvas” after receiving a report about criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle during which they observed two vehicles on Crestview Terrace with their doors open. Officers contacted the resident who said he did not leave his vehicles' doors open and confirmed that the vehicles were unlocked. Nothing was reported missing.
Police report that they responded to a third incident on Crestview Terrace and met with the vehicle owner who said he parked his vehicle in the driveway of his residence at approximately 5 p.m. and did not return to his vehicle until around 4 p.m. the next day. He said some personal belongings were missing. Police did not indicate what was taken and that this event may be connected to the other two.
Residential Burglaries -- Police responded to the 900 Block of Plum Grove Circle for a report of a residential burglary. The resident said his side garage door was broken, and he noticed forced entry to the door. Nothing, however, was reportedly taken and the house appeared normal. A second residential burglary was reported in the 300 block east Dundee Road. Reports say the resident entered his unit and observed his bucket of tools was missing. Investigations in both incidents are ongoing.
Criminal Damage to Property -- Police responded to the 800 block of Weidner Road and met with a resident who told them an unknown person(s) entered the parking lot and were breaking into vehicles. He stated that damage was done to the vehicle, but nothing was taken.
One for the road -- Police responded to the Shell station at 185 N Milwaukee Ave. where staff said an unknown offender stole a 12-pack of Modelo Beer valued at $18.39.

Increased enforcement targets distracted drivers
The Buffalo Grove Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement efforts across the state in recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Throughout April, motorists can expect increased patrols looking for texting and driving as well as other traffic violations.
Between 2012 and 2021, approximately 32,000 lives were lost in crashes involving distracted drivers. Anyone can be involved in distracted driving crashes, but those between the ages of 16 and 24 are especially at risk. If you need to text, pull over to a safe location, or if you have a passenger, consider appointing a “designated texter.” Whatever the solution, don’t text and drive.
Using your phone in any way other than hands-free mode is illegal in Illinois.
