Theft from car -- A Cambridge on the Lake resident reported to police that his car was broken into and that a variety of personal items were taken. According to reports, the vehicle was parked in the parking lot.
Tire slashed -- Police report criminal damage to property on Arbor Gate Lane. Reports say a resident told them that someone "slashed" the front driver's side tire on their vehicle that was parked in the driveway.
Retail theft -- Security personnel at Woodman’s Market summoned police after they observed a man leaving the store with merchandise that he allegedly did not pay for. Reports say the man took nearly $73 worth of items. He was issued an adjudication ticket and trespass warning.
Catalytic converters swiped -- A resident of the Oak Creek condominiums reported to police that some stole his catalytic converter off his car. Reports say the incident was one of three catalytic converter thefts that occurred around the same time.
Car theft at Metra station -- A Metra commuter told police someone broke into their car while it was parked at the Buffalo Grove Metra station. Reports say “several personal items” were stolen. No description of value of the items taken was available.
Charges filed in vehicle damage -- A 23-year-old man was charged with criminal damage to property after officers were summoned to the 1000 block of Miller Lane. Reports say Jonathan Townsend was seen damaging a vehicle in the parking lot. Police say Townsend left the area after damaging the vehicle, but officers were able to identify and track him down. Reports did not indicate where Townsend is from, indicating only that he was “not a resident of the jurisdiction.”

If plans for development of an out lot at Lake-Cook Road and Rt. 83 come to fruition, area residents will be able to please their palates.
The Daily Herald reports that a “Wild Fork” specialty grocer is the centerpiece of a plan for the site of the former Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) urgent-care center. The center was razed when NCH opened its new medical office building at Lake-Cook and Weiland roads. Developers told the Village Board that construction of the plaza, which would also include a veterinary clinic, could begin this summer.
Beth Am food pantry open Sunday

Buffalo Grove, 1370 Abbott Court, will be open this Sunday, April 24 from noon

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will perform its spring concert, Greetings from Italy, at Stevenson High School’s Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. Advanced tickets are on sale at this link for $10 each, or can be purchased at the door for $12
Library opens early learning area
The Youth Services Department at the Indian Trails Public Library District, 355 Schoenbeck Rd., Wheeling, has reopened its Early Learning Area. Patrons can stop by and check out the following activities and services that are available for young children and families, including:
• Giant Lite Brite and Lego wall
• Dollhouse and kitchen to encourage dramatic play
• The Makery: a creative space where kids make art to hang on our display wall
• Board games for families to play together
• Ball machine
Transitioning to Middle School session
District 96 will sponsor a “Transition to Middle School,” at 7 p.m. April 20 (via Zoom).
The program is designed to answer of questions parents may have about their child who is entering 6th grade and a new school.
Participants will include Twin Groves Principal Jessica Barnes and Woodlawn Principal Greg Grana and Asst. Principal Michelle Garlick, who will discuss academics, extracurricular opportunities, and changes that middle school years bring. Current 6th-grade panelists will also share their perspectives.

Lake County unveils 2022 road work
More than 35 transportation projects will be under construction in 2022, featuring intersection improvements, bridge and culvert replacements, bike path connections, and resurfacings as part of the Lake County Division of Transportation annual construction program.
The program includes $90 million for infrastructure projects to improve traffic congestion, increase safety, and reduce carbon emissions on Lake County's transportation system. Click here to learn more.

Lake County sending out new voter cards
The Lake County Clerk's Office has determined the polling places for Lake County for the June 28 General Primary Election and will mail out new voter registration cards to all registered voters in Lake County.
The new cards will have your polling site location, congressional and state legislative districts and your new precinct number. Go to Voter Power, which will be updated soon with your new information, or visit the June 28, 2022 General Primary Election page.
BGHS drive aids Ukraine victims
Students at Buffalo Grove High School raised nearly $2,000 and collected a myriad of supplies to aid refugees and other impacted by the war in Ukraine. Details of their effort can be found here.
Senior Expo Friday
The Park District’s annual senior expo is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road. This free event provides a dynamic one-stop shop for seniors to interact with vendors and service providers, enabling them to become familiar with the wide range of services available to them. There will also be raffle prizes.
Bike Rodeo May 14
The Bike Rodeo is returning this year and will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Mike Rylko Park, 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road. on May 14. Children ages 5-12 are invited to test their skills on a course, designed by the Illinois Secretary of State's Office, that includes stopping maneuvers, slalom courses and more.
Prizes will be awarded, along with a bike giveaway and goodie bags for children who participate. Young people should bring their own bikes and helmets; no registration is required.
Public Works open house
The Public Works Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at Mike Rylko Park, 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road. Public Works Forestry staff will have equipment on display and will do some unique demonstrations including staff using a chainsaw to cut through a log and the Streets Division plowing into a car, among other attractions. There will be free frozen treats, hands-on activities and live demonstrations.
Focus during April
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Buffalo Grove Police are partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to remind motorists to “Drop It and Drive.
Motorists can expect to see increased patrols and enforcement zones over the entire month of April and police will be ticketing drivers who use their phones while driving. The distracted driving campaign is administered by IDOT and federal traffic safety funds.
