Residential burglary – Officers responded to the 900 block of Lucinda Drive in response to a report of residential burglary. Upon arrival police met with a resident who said someone entered her home and stole various items. This investigation is ongoing.
Messy vandalism – A resident in the 1000 block of Greenridge Road reported that someone poured milk over one of their cars and eggs and barbecue sauce on a second car in addition to throwing eggs on the garage door and siding of garage.
Retail theft- Employees at the Walgreens at 1701 N. Buffalo Grove Rd. summoned police after they said they observed two Hispanic females taking merchandise. Reports say approximately three bags worth of merchandise was taken.
DUI charges puts man on a limb – An Arlington Heights man was charged with DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he apparently lost control of his car and hit a tree on Buffalo Grove Road near Dundee Road. He was not charged with damaging village property. Some police departments will cite drivers if they hit municipality owned property.
Escape – A woman being held by police for a bond forfeiture warrant for retail theft requested to have paramedics taken to Northwest Community Hospital as she was suffering from what reports say was a pre-existing medical condition. She was taken to the hospital, but apparently had an ulterior motive. While waiting for treatment at the hospital, the woman escaped from custody and left the hospital on foot. Buffalo Grove Police were able to locate her a short time later. She was charged with escape from a peace officer.

Mo Welborn remembered
Tributes have poured in for longtime resident and passionate volunteer, Mo Welborn, who passed away on Jan. 28.
In a Facebook post, former Village President Elliott Hartstein said “There are no words to adequately express what an amazing woman Queen Mo was . She was also a bundle of happy energy even when she had hurdles to overcome . She was the personification of Buffalo Grove days and did so much for the community . Nonprofit makes BG new home
Nonprofit resource provider GiveNKind has moved to Buffalo Grove. It opened its new distribution center at 1000 Asbury Drive Jan. 25. It was previously based in Mundelein.
GiveNKind takes excess goods from businesses and distributors and connects them with the needs of area nonprofits.
Last year, its staff and volunteers distributed over $10 million in donated goods to nearly 200 nonprofits in Chicagoland. The new 13,600 square-foot location will enable GiveNKind greater opportunities to expand its operations. Its previous space was just over 5,500 square-feet.

Party to feature superheroes, princesses
The Park District is hosting a “Superhero and Princess Party” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Community Arts Center, 255 McHenry Road.
Attendees will have the chance to meet your favorite superheroes and princesses, who will be on-site to meet and take pictures. There will be games with prizes, entertainment and family fun.
Parents must accompany children during the entire event. Only children need to be registered. Registration will not be taken on the day of the event. For more information, contact Mike Pfeiffer at 847-850-2108.
Maker-in-Residence applications due
The deadline for the Indian Trails Public Library District’s Maker-in-Residence program. The Maker-in-Residence program is Monday, Feb. 5.
The program takes place during the Summer Library Adventure (SLA) program in the summer of 2024.
As a Maker in Residence, participants will:
• Complete a project to be exhibited at the Library at the completion of the residency. A community-centered exhibit is encouraged.
• Have a paid six-week residency in the library’s Launch Pad, working on your craft in the space.
• Offer workshops for library members.
• Have access to the Launch Pad equipment and staff assistance.

Sen. Johnson collecting Valentine’s Day cards
State Sen. Adriane Johnson (D-30) Valentine’s Day cards to be distributed next month at senior facilities across her 30th District.
Homemade or store-bought cards can be dropped off or mailed now through 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Johnson’s office, 149 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, Ill. 60085.
The 30th District includes portions of Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and northern Lake County, including all or parts of Mundelein, Lincolnshire, Vernon Hills, Gurnee, Libertyville, Green Oaks and Waukegan.

New HR czar
If you’re applying for a job with the village, odds are you’ll meet with Kathryn “Katie” Golbach, the Human Resources Director. Golbach has been HR Management Analyst with the village since August of 2018. She is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.

TIF funds get green light for Dundee Road development
The Village Board Jan. 16 approved $11 million in Tax Increment Financing funds for the development of parcels on Dundee Road affectionately known for years as the “Rohrman properties.”
The development, to be known as “Bison Crossing” is anchored by a Tesla Sales and Customer Service Center. Demolition of the existing buildings is expected to start this month. Construction of the Tesla facility is scheduled to start in April or May with completion in Spring of 2025.
Plans for the development also call for small retail stores and a 221-unit apartment complex. Additional information is available in this Daily Herald report.
New graphics, slogan get Board OK
If you’re seeing a new look on village vehicles, letterhead, banners and other items, it’s because the Village Board approved a new graphics and village identity package at its Jan. 16 meeting. In addition to new graphics, the village is now touting its “Smart. With Heart” slogan. Both the slogan and graphics package followed a nine-month initiative spearheaded by North Star Place Branding + Marketing whose nearly $98,000-plus contract included meetings, interviews and presentations to various village stakeholders.
The new graphics package will be included on village vehicles, print materials, banners and apparel.
