Man faces assault, battery charges - Police responded to Villa Verde Drive for a battery report. Upon arrival police met with a complainant, who told police he was “assaulted and battered.” Police arrested Grant Braband, 26 of Buffalo Grove and charged him with battery and two counts of Aggravated Assault / Offense Based on Use of Firearm, Device, or Motor Vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance.
Portable restrooms vandalized – Police report two cases where portable restrooms were damaged. In one case, police say a “large amount of fireworks” were ignited inside a portable restroom in Woodland Park. Details flushed out by police say there was a lot of debris, but only minor damage to the unit.“
In a second incident, a portable restroom in Kilmer Park suffered a similar fate. In this case, however, police say the unit was not standing on its own and all the walls and top were off. Police say a “black-powder like material” was on the floor of the unit.
Eluding a police officer -- Police report they stopped a vehicle for dark-tinted windows near Ill. Rt. 22 and Buffalo Grove Road. Reports say officers met with a male driver, who handed over his driver's license. The driver then drove away westbound on Route 22 near Route 83. The investigation is ongoing.
Theft at fitness center – Police report that a member of Sky Fitness reported that his backpack was stolen while he was exercising. He told police the backpack was at his side when it was stolen. It reportedly contained items, including various electronics, valued at $800.
Catalytic converters swiped – The wave of thefts of catalytic converters continues. Two residents in the Villa Verde condominiums reported catalytic converters were taken from their vehicles.
Woodman’s theft – A shopper at Woodman’s Market received an adjudication ticket and trespass warning after he tried to sneak out of the store without paying. Reports did not indicate what was taken or the value of items.
Swing and a miss -- Police report that an unknown man took a swing at a customer in the parking lot at Woodman’s Market before fleeing on foot. Reports do not say if the customer was injured. The investigation is ongoing.

Shredding, electronic recycling event set
Residents who have documents they want shredded or household electronics they would like to recycle, can bring materials to the Buffalo Grove Park District’s Golf Dome parking lot, 801 McHenry Rd., from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 23.
Papers slated for shredding should be free of staples and paperclips while electronics will be collected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The event is sponsored by State Rep. Daniel Didech (D-59), State Rep. Nabeela Syed (D-51), State Sen. Adriane Johnson (D-30) and Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim.
Village seeks residents’ input
Buffalo Grove’s latest initiative to establish an identity and strategic plans will require resident input. At least according to village officials who say that “As part of the village's Moving BG Forward initiative, the village is developing a new comprehensive plan to outline a long-term vision of the village’s physical environment.” Officials say they want to hear residents’ vision for the future of BG, by taking a 10-minute survey that can be found here.
Vendors wanted for "Meet me on Main Street"
Even though it won’t be on Main Street, the Buffalo Grove Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce invites businesses, organizations and arts and craft vendors to reserve their spot at the "Meet me on Main Street" Business and Craft Fair September 2-4 at Buffalo Grove Days.

Jazz concert set
The Buffalo Grove Jazz Band returns for its second free all-jazz concert at Willow Stream Park at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 performing "Groovin' in the Grove," featuring big band hits from the 40s to today

BG Days parade, BBQ participants sought
This year's BG Days Parade is set for 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. The parade will go southbound on Buffalo Grove Road from LaSalle, and then westbound on Deerfield Parkway where it will end at Mike Rylko Park. Buffalo Grove Days will be Sept. 2 -4 at Mike Rylko Park.

Rotary announces 2023-24 officers
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove has announced its 2023-2024 officers. They include Director Stephen Legge, Director Steve Balinski, President Nominee Juliet Ziak, Director Miriam Campbell, President-Elect Brian Shepard, Club President Shawn Collins, and Immediate Past President Lisa Siwek, Secretary Leslie Forman and Treasurer Shannon O’Connor.
Club President for 2023-2024 is Shawn Collins. He is in his eight year with Rotary and serves as a Battalion Chief and Training Officer for the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. This will be his second term as president as he served as president in 2018-2019
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove was founded in 1974 and will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2024. Its membership consists of businesspeople and professionals from the local community that dedicate their time and efforts to raise money and then gives back through service projects locally and globally.

CCSD 21 seeks bilingual volunteers
School District 21 is seeking Spanish-speaking volunteers. After receiving training and materials, participants will tutor students one-on-one in kindergarten, first or second grade at Twain Elementary and/or Whitman Elementary. 28 cited during holiday traffic crackdown
The Buffalo Grove Police Department issued 18 seat belt citations during its recent Independence Day traffic safety campaign which ran from June 16 through the morning of July 5.
An additional 10 citations were issued for distracted driving, speeding and insurance violations.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” safety campaigns provided additional enforcement efforts to the Department’s normal operations.
The enforcement period was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Cops targeting speeders
Buffalo Grove police are participating in a speed enforcement campaign through Aug. 17. Increased patrols will likely be seen throughout Buffalo Grove during that time period.
