Fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer – A 22-year-old Arlington Heights woman is facing four charges after she failed to stop for a traffic stop – on a dirt bike. Police attempted to stop the woman who was on a “dirt motorcycle” for driving without side mirrors, brake lights, or headlight near Old Arlington Heights and Dundee roads. Reports say officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the driver did not stop. The driver and dirt motorcycle were found near Oak Creek Drive with the driver running away from police on foot before being apprehended. She was charged with fleeing and eluding a peace officer, possession of Cannabis over 100 grams, intent to deliver, and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
Snoozing driver faces multiple charges -- A 31-year-old Buffalo Grove man faces several charges – after police responded to complaints about a man asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle at the corner of Weidner and Bernard roads. Upon arrival, officers met with the driver and during the investigation found he was showing signs of impairment. He was ultimately charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, possession of Cannabis (more than 30 grams less than 500 grams), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Retail theft – Police were summoned to Woodman’s Market after store officials discovered a theft. Reports say a woman was observed scanning certain items and then not scanning others and placing them into her bag. Police say she scanned 23 grocery items totaling $142.69. She was issued an adjudication warning for shoplifting.
Domestic battery – A 29-year-old Buffalo Grove woman faces one charge of domestic battery after police say she was involved in an altercation in a residence on Old Oak Drive.

Parade, picnic highlight Pride Month kickoff eventsThe 6th annual Pride Parade is the highlight of three events to kick off Pride Month in Buffalo Grove.
The Parade, begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at Thompson and Buffalo Grove roads, ends on Deerfield Parkway by the entrance to Mike Rylko Park. It will be followed by the Buffalo Grove Park District’s Pride Picnic at the park. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Area road closures begin at 9 a.m.
The weekend’s events start with a Pride flag raising at Rotary Village Green, 265 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., tomorrow, Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m.
The flag raising and parade are privately funded and organized by BG Pride and the Pinta Pride Project. Information about the events and Pinta Pride Project can be found at this link.
Junior police academy sign-up open
Registration is open for the 2024 Junior Police Academy. The program is set for June 24-28 and is for children ages 9-13 who either live in or attend school in Buffalo Grove.
The week-long program allows children the chance to explore police equipment, conduct crime investigations and much more in a hands-on, interactive experience. Learn more and sign up at his link..
Blood drive Saturday
A community blood drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 1, at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive. Donors are required to provide an ID.
The entire blood donation process takes about one hour. Appointments are encouraged but not required. To make an appointment, call 877-543-3768 or visit Vitalant.org.
The Buffalo Grove Health Commission is also offering donors a chance to win gift cards to local area restaurants.
Chat with the Chief at Starbucks
Police Chief Biran Budds continues his caffeine tour when he visits the Starbucks at 1205 W. Dundee Road from Noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 as part of his “Chat With the Chief” program that offers visitors a chance meet BG’s top cop and learn more about the Police Department.
Bill Reid Award nominations open
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is seeking nominations for the 2023 Bill Reid Award. This award recognizes long-term community contributors whose efforts have resulted in the enhancement, betterment and improved spirit of the Buffalo Grove community. First property tax payment due June 5
The first installment of Lake County property tax bills is due June 5. There are various ways to pay your bill, including in person and free via an e-check. Visit the Lake County Treasurer’s Office website to view your tax bill and read about all payment options.
Severe weather spotter class set
Lake County residents can learn what to do and not to do during severe weather, by attending a National Weather Service Severe Weather Spotter class on June 5.
The program will cover the basics of storm spotting, thunderstorms, and methods to report severe weather.
The program is offered by the Lake County Emergency Management Agency at the Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville.
Two sessions are available; one from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The class is free, and no registration is required. The classes are appropriate for all ages.
If you’re keeping score at home
The Buffalo Grove Police Department issued 55 citations during the Memorial Day ‘Click it or Ticket’ safety campaign period which ran from May 14-27.
Of those citations, 22 were seat belt citations, seven distracted driving citations, 13 speeding citations, and there were 12 additional citations and one traffic arrest.
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
D21 offers “Seamless Summer”
School District 21 is again offering its “Seamless Summer”. The program is designed to provide nutritious meals to children throughout the summer months, ensuring they continue to have access to healthy food even when school is not in session.
It will be available from June 5 to Aug. 9, offering a free, healthy lunch to all children aged 18 and under. Meals will be served at multiple convenient locations across the community to make it easy for families to participate.
No registration or application is necessary; just bring your children to any of the locations during the meal times to receive a free, healthy meal.
‘Tots In The Park’ June 14
The Park District is holding a “Tots in the Park” program from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on June 14 at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive.
The program will feature singing and dancing with Super Stolie. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket and pack some snacks for a picnic. In case of inclement weather, performances will be held inside the Alcott Center. For more information, contact Mike Pfeiffer at (847) 850-2108.
New township clerk named
Fabiola “Fabbi” Vasquez is the new Vernon Township clerk. She replaces Tim Kobler, who was appointed to serve as Township Supervisor in April.
