2025 budget hearing Monday
The Village Board will hold a hearing on the 2025 budget at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18 in the Braiman Council Chambers at Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd.
According to Director of Finance and General Services, Chris Black, the proposed budget “once again provides BG residents with a 0% increase to the property tax levy.
“This is achieved through aggressive debt and liability management, spending controls, operational efficiency, and innovation as a means to deliver the highest quality services at the best value to our community.”
Black also notes that “The draft budget reflects the village's commitment to economic development, sustainable community reinvestment and forward-focused planning. The village continues to pursue opportunities to diversify its revenue streams and reduce long-term liabilities, reducing the reliance on property taxes and improving the quality of life to our residents and businesses.”
In his “letter to corporate authorities,” which serves as an introduction to the more than 500-page document, Manager Dane Bragg writes that “The Village's budget philosophy is anchored in a longstanding commitment to three fundamental tenets: economic development, community reinvestment, and forward focused planning.”
To no surprise, Bragg touts the “emphasis on Economic Development,” and points out that Buffalo Grove has “carved a niche in the electric vehicle and battery sector with the addition of a new Tesla dealership scheduled to open in 2025, Ymer Technologies opening in 2024 and a new Rivian delivery and service facility scheduled to open in 2026.”
Bragg also cites the ongoing development of “The Clove,” the development replacing the old Town Center. A core part of the budget, Bragg notes, is “forward-focused planning” which is anchored in five goals that are incorporated into the 2024-2028 strategic plans. The quintet includes maintaining effective village government, enhanced, beautiful, safe, and sustainable neighborhoods, strengthening Buffalo Grove’s identity and pride, growing Buffalo Grove as a vibrant and innovative community-leading edge, and offer a “more livable Buffalo Grove community with leisure experience for all.”
Monday’s meeting is a presentation of the budget by senior village management. The Village Board is expected to vote on the budget at its Dec. 2 meeting.

State board of ed cites D21 schools
Twelve District 21 schools received “commendable” designations in the state report card released by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) on Oct. 30. All nine elementary schools and the district’s three middle schools were placed into the second tier of summative designations. The district’s 13th school, Hawthorne, did not receive a designation based on its status as an early childhood center.
Released annually by the Illinois State Board of Education, the report card assesses key metrics such as academic growth, proficiency in core subjects, graduation rates, attendance, school climate, and student demographics.
