BGPD lists October activity
The Buffalo Grove Police Department reported 161 events during October. Included in the list were two reports of battery, two residential burglaries, one report of criminal damage to property and four reports of disorderly conduct and reports of 14 driving violations.
Also reported were five DUIs, four reports of fraud, 12 thefts and 100 reported “local code violations.” This category includes a variety of calls to police including dog bites, citizen assists, well-being checks and neighborhood trouble.
Recently, police reported:
** A residential burglary in the 500 block of Indian Spring Lane on Oct 10. Reports say jewelry was stolen.
** A theft of a Lexus RX350 from the 2300 block of Avalon Drive on Oct. 13. The vehicle was recovered in Chicago.
** The arrest of a 56-year-old man who was charged with battery.
** The thefts of two catalytic converters; one in the 1100 block of Arlington Heights Road, the other in the 1100 block of McHenry Road
In Other Community News
Townhome proposal approved
The Village Board approved a plan for 90 townhomes at Ill. Rt. 22 Main St. in unincorporated Prairie View. In addition to approving the project, annexation of the 11.8-acre site into the village was approved. The development is being constructed by Pulte Homes. Soccer team gets international flair
International soccer came to Buffalo Grove recently as Schwaben AC hosted Hamburger Fuball-Verband, a German youth football program from Hamburg, Germany. In addition to fielding youth soccer teams, they are the governing body for all soccer games played in Hamburg
According to Thomas Gansauge Schwaben’s director of coaching, the club has been practicing an international exchange program with the Hamburg club since 2012.

Veterans Day celebration set
The Park District will honor the nation’s veterans in a program from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 with a ceremony at the Community Arts Center, 225 N. McHenry Rd.
The free event will include a complimentary meal courtesy of Culver’s
The VFW Post 981 Color Guard will present and retire The Colors. There will also be speeches, and patriotic music.

Concert band performance Nov. 15
The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will present an evening of contemporary music celebrating the American experience at their 25th annual fall concert, “As American as Apple Pie” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.
Advance tickets are on sale now and are $10 for adults ($12 at the door) and $8 for students and seniors. Advance tickets can be purchased at this link or from any Symphonic Band member.
Library program supporting troops
Throughout November, the Indian Trails Public Library is inviting residents to participate in Operation Support our Troops. Visitors are invited to visit the Library at 335 Schoenbeck Road in Wheeling to write encouraging messages of support for our servicemen and women stationed overseas for the holidays.
Cards and messages will be sent with care packages provided by Wheeling Township. Residents interested in donating to the care package effort can drop items off at the Wheeling Township office, 1616 N Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights through the end of November. A list of accepted items can be found here.

Chambers plan ‘morning mingle’
The Buffalo Grove-Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, along with the Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods (DBR) Chamber of Commerce is hosting a morning mingle from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 at the office of the DBR, 570 Lake-Cook Rd., Deerfield.

Vernon Twp. food pantry seeks donations
In light of the government shutdown, with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) reduced, the Vernon Township Food Pantry is seeking donations. Residents can donate non-perishable food by placing contributions in the collection cart outside the Township offices, 3050 N. Main St.

Thanksgiving food drive at the Library
The Indian Trails Public Library District is hosting a food drive this holiday season. All donations will be delivered to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. The library is collecting non-perishable food items to support local families in need. Donations can be dropped off in the library’s lobby.

Park District, NWSRA receive state partnership award
The Buffalo Grove Park District and the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) received a Partnership Award at the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Best of the Best Awards Gala for their annual PURSUIT Program art exhibit.
PURSUIT is designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities 21 years and older throughout the year through four core elements: Recreation and Leisure, Skills and Self Advocacy, Community Integration, and Health and Wellness. PURSUIT is licensed by the Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities
D21 names board member
Community Consolidated School District 21 Board of Education has appointed Angelika Husmann to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Board Member Dagmara Kalinowski.
Husmann, who was appointed Oct. 1, will serve the remainder of Kalinowski’s term, which runs through 2027.
Funds awarded for mariachi program
District 21 recently received a $20,000 grant from the Illinois Arts Council to launch a mariachi band program at Holmes Middle School, expanding access to music education and celebrating the rich cultural traditions of our community.
The district says the program will begin as an after-school club open to all Holmes students and will also serve as a pathway to the mariachi program already established at neighboring Wheeling High School.
