Amazon Fresh closing leaves Clove hole
The closing of Amazon’s “Amazon Fresh” and “Amazon Go” stores is raising a question for developers of The Clove as well as village officials – what’s next? Amazon Fresh was scheduled to open in The Clove.
While postings on social media have listed a litany of desires, the reality is there are specific guidelines for the space.
According to village officials, the Redevelopment Agreement (RDA) stipulates there “has to be a “Retail Grocery Anchor” defined as “a national credit grocery tenant within the Retail Project occupying space that is at least forty-three thousand (43,000) gross square feet.”
More definitively, officials say it has to be a “true grocery store, typically with a national presence per the definition.”
The village can, however, review a proposed business plan of the grocer to ensure compliance with the agreement.”
Amazon Fresh stores were scheduled to close Feb. 1.
