Aggravated Domestic Battery – This never helps a Yelp review. Police responded to the Extended Stay America, 1525 E Busch Parkway, for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival police met with a victim, who had a physical altercation with another woman who was arrested and charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm, and Aggravated Battery/Use of a Deadly Weapon. She was detained at the Lake County jail.
Man charged in fatal crash -- Buffalo Grove Police, working with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, have Shalmil Naftaliev, 33, of Hoffman Estates, with a Class 2 Aggravated DUI for being over the legal limit of cannabis at the time of the April 8 crash on Buffalo Grove Road that killed a pedestrian, 81-year-old Alex Gorn of Buffalo Grove. Naftaliev turned himself in On October 4, and was brought to his first court appearance on October 5. Naftaliev was released and will appear in Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows on Nov. 3.
Criminal damage to property -- A resident in the 110 block of Steeple Drive reported someone broke her rear passenger window. She told police that she heard a loud pop noise in the parking lot and looked out her window and reportedly saw a man, approximately in his late teens, run from her car back to the driver seat of his vehicle. She told police he then drove west on Lake-Cook Road in what appeared to be a black sedan. In a second incident, a resident in the 100 block of Armstrong Drive said she noticed the right rear window of her car had been damaged by an unknown person. In a third incident, a resident in the 0 – 10 block of Oak Creek Drive reported that the rear window of his car was smashed in by an unknown person.
Retail theft -- Police responded to the Jewel at 79 McHenry Road for a report of a theft. Store officials told police that unknown offenders stole seven bottles of alcohol without paying. This investigation is ongoing.
Criminal trespass to vehicles -- Police responded to the area of 350 E. Dundee Road for a report of a suspicious subject. Police arrived on scene and met with a man who police say entered a vehicle that was not his. He was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and released from custody.
Forgery – Police reports that two restaurants contacted them about receiving bogus bills. In the first incident, an employee at Taco a man entered their drive-thru and made two transactions valued at approximately $10. The driver of the vehicle handed the cashier what appeared to be a $20 bill, and was provided the food and change. The offender then requested a drink. and handed the cashier another bill which appeared to be a $20 bill, and was given the drink and change. The driver left and the cashier soon noticed that the two bills provided were counterfeit. A driver matching the same description stopped at the Jimmy John's at 700 E Lake Cook Rd and made a transaction with another counterfeit $20 bill.

Library displays Maker-In-Residence work
The first Maker-in-Residence program work at the Indian Trails Public Library was completed this summer and is on display outside of the Muriel Lischett Reading Room on the second floor of the main library. The wall sculpture was created by the Library’s maker, Anastasia Sitnikov, who partnered with our members to contribute laser cut objects that Sitnikov wove into the sculpture.
Book discussion features Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

Cops get traffic grant
The Buffalo Grove Police Department has been awarded a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant to conduct additional traffic safety enforcement efforts for the 2024 federal fiscal year. The grant totals $50,531.40.
The STEP program focuses on high-visibility enforcement and strategies aimed at saving lives and preventing injuries by reducing traffic crashes.
During the STEP grant year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2024, Buffalo Grove Police will conduct additional enforcement efforts to supplement mandatory and optional campaign enforcement dates scheduled during some of the deadliest times of the year.
The STEP grant is funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Friends of the Park plan Broadway concert
The Buffalo Grove Park District’s Friends of the Park will present “A Broadway Love Story”, featuring Max Quinlan and his wife Siri Howard on Nov. 3.
Their performance will feature songs from Disney classics to Broadway favorites, such as Les Misérables, The Music Man and others.
Quinlan, a Buffalo Grove native, met Howard during their Broadway run in the national tour of Les Misérables. Quinlan is the producing artistic director in Greenville, South Carolina, while Howard performs in theater and concert venues around the country.
The event, at the Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road, begins at 6 p.m. and will include a catered dinner by BBQ on Wheels, one drink, and the concert.
Tickets are available with an early bird discount until Oct. 21 at this link for $70. After Oct. 21, tickets are $75. Tickets can also be purchased at the Alcott Center Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go directly to military families and families in need so they can take Park District programming.

Diwali celebration Nov. 4
“Experience Diwali: A Festival Of Lights” is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road,
Sponsored by the Park District, the free event will feature live entertainment including performances by Meher Dance and Chicago Marathi Vidyamandir’s showcasing Dohl and Tasha musicians, family activities, storytelling by Meher Dance Arts and crafts for children. A rangoli creating competition is also planned.

Police hosting ‘drug takeback day’
Residents who have unused prescription drugs can bring them to the Police Department on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to be disposed of safely and properly as part of National Drug Take Back Day.
No needles or inhalers will be accepted. If you cannot stop by during those hours, the Police Department has a safe disposal receptacle in the Police Department lobby available for drop offs all year long. Click here for more information.
Village lists sites for middle east aid
A list of organizations actively involved in providing humanitarian aid and resources to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Israel and the Gaza Strip is available on the village website, or by clicking on this link. While the list is not all inclusive, it has been, say village officials, compiled with the help of local partners and residents, and it can be a starting point for those looking to make a donation to support relief efforts.
Board President Eric Smith offered a message of support during the Oct. 16 Village Board meeting for those impacted by ongoing conflict in the Middle East. "In times like these, it is essential for our community to come together, support one another and stand in solidarity with those who are suffering." Park District plans Halloween program at museum
The Park District is sponsoring an “Enchanted Night At The Museum” at the Raupp Museum from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The museum is located at 901 Dunham Lane.
The program is open to participants 7 -12 years of age and will start outdoors and include a flashlight egg hunt in the backyard of the Raupp Museum. Once the egg hunt is over, participants will enter the Museum, only to find out that a spell has been cast upon them. To reverse the spell, participants will solve riddles and challenges, while exploring the Museum. Pre-registration is required; day-of registration is not available. Cost is $12 for in-District/ residents and $15 for nonresidents. The registration code for the program is 261012-01

Coat drive under way
The Park District Senior Advisory Council is holding a coat drive through Friday, Nov. 17. Donations of new and gently used coats, jackets, and winter items for adults and children will be accepted. Drive-thru Trick-or-Treat set
Buffalo Grove’s firefighters and police are continuing their tradition of offering drive-thru Trick-or-Treating. This year’s event is from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Fire Station at 109 E. Deerfield Parkway.
Vehicles should enter from eastbound Deerfield Parkway, and will be directed to enter the Fire Station's garage (109 E. Deerfield Parkway) and then exit eastbound on Deerfield Parkway.
Have a doggone good time
Residents’ dogs can have a good time on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the “Howl-O-Ween Canine Costume Contest” from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. in the Dan Schimmel Pavilion at Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Rd.
The free event will include a canine costume contest and doggy egg hunt. Prizes and awards will be given to the most unique and creative costumes; categories include best costume and best family themed costume.

State Senator Adriane Johnson (D-30) is highlighting opportunities for indoor and outdoor recreation, exploration, education and more at some of the most beloved spots around the 30th District with her “30 Wonders of the 30th District” guide.
Johnson’s office published the 30 Wonders of the 30th District guide to celebrate and uplift public amenities, parks, monuments and other experiences around the district. Ranging from community centers to local museums.
Residents of the 30th District can utilize the project to explore their home communities and rediscover the interesting history, artistic vibrancy, social energy and stunning nature in their own backyard.

Vernon Area Library adds instant access to “The Economist”
Vernon Area Public Library cardholders can now enjoy free, no-wait access to The Economist with their library card. The library recently added the publication to its catalog of digital periodicals available on PressReader.
