Aggravated assault – A traffic incident escalated to an altercation that resulted in charges filed in charges against three people. Reports say the fisticuffs began at Lake-Cook and McHenry roads when a car driven by a Palatine man was sideswiped by a vehicle driven by a woman from Buffalo Grove. The two engaged in an argument, police say, which escalated when a passenger in the woman’s car, a man from Matteson, began arguing and then displayed a box cutter “with the blade exposed” according to police.
No one was injured; however the Palatine man was charged with driving on a suspended license, the Buffalo Grove woman was charged with leaving the scene of an accident while her passenger, the man from Matteson, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.
Burglary – Thieves took an undisclosed amount of cash after they broke into a business in the 400 block of west Half Day Road. Police report two cash registers were taken from the Everything Games store. Burglars apparently gained access to the store by breaking a window near the front door with an unknown object.
Battery – A 36-year-old Palatine man who was terminated from his position at a company in the 700 block of west Lake-Cook Road was charged with battery after he allegedly, reports say, “pushed or punched” a coworker in the chest.
Domestic battery – A 33-year-old man was charged with domestic violence battery after an incident in the 600 block of Le Parc Circle. Reports say the man had an “altercation” with a woman, which led to the charges.
Vehicle theft – A resident in the 200 block of St. Mary's Parkway reported that his car, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was missing. He told police he parked the vehicle in his driveway at approximately 1 a.m. hours and went into the residence with the keys to the car. Reports say that when the man came back outside at around 12:45 p.m. the vehicle was missing, It was recovered in Chicago.
Criminal damage to property – Police say a person or persons destroyed a package in the 1100 block of Johnson Drive by setting fire to it. Reports say the fire was extinguished by a resident. There was no reported damage.
Retail thefts - Police say a man stole a bucket of Fireball Whiskey bottles (20 bottles/50ml), a 4-pack of Monaco tequila, a bottle of On The Rocks Effen (750ml), and a lemon from Woodman’s Market. Reports say surveillance footage showed the man enter take a bucket of Fireball Whiskey bottles and place it in a shopping cart. A short time later, reports say he took the 4-pack of Monaco tequila from a cooler and placed it in the shopping cart. Reports say that he took a bottle of On The Rock Effen concealed it under his jacket. Apparently undaunted, he returned and took a lemon and placed it in his shopping cart. Thinking he was in the clear, he pushed the shopping cart containing the items out of the store past the checkout and drove off the property. Police would not say how they tracked the man down, but they did and he received an adjudication ticket for theft, a trespass warning. He also paid retribution for the items. Including the lemon.
In a second case at Woodman’s, a man received an adjudication ticket for theft and a trespass warning after he allegedly tried to make off with a myriad of items including two bags 7-pound bags of Fresh Step cat litter three pounds of mandarin oranges, 10 limes, one bundle of bananas, five 2-count packs of ribeye steaks, one tenderloin steak, three choice rump roasts, two Gerber chicken thighs. The items were valued at $416.39. Police declined to report how the man was apprehended.

Alcott holiday hours set
The Park District has announced holiday hours for the Alcott Center. The Center will be closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Roam the Dome
Residents who are looking for a place to walk during inclement or cold weather walk inside the Park District's Golf Dome, 801 McHenry Rd., from 9 -10 a.m. Mondays through Fridays. The free access is available until April 11.
In addition to the Golf Dome, there are a variety of walking trails in and around the village. A guide to the trails can be found here.
Dance company presents “The Wizard of Oz”
The Studio 83 Dance Academy is presenting performances of “The Wizard of Oz” at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14, and at 3 p.m. Dec.14 and 15.
All performances will be at the Community Arts Center, 225 N. McHenry Rd. Tickets are $15, plus a $1 ticketing fee. For more information, contact Aly Stanczak at 847-850-2105.
Cops busy during traffic enforcement campaign
Buffalo Grove Police issued 86 citations and made eight arrests during a Thanksgiving holiday enforcement campaign from Nov. 22 to Dec. 2.
During that time, officers made two DUI arrests, six traffic arrests, 24 speeding citations, 34 occupant restraint citations, seven electronic device use citations and 21 other traffic citations.
The Thanksgiving enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
Six ASHS students honored by Schneider
Six Adlai Stevenson High School students were among 36 students cited by U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-10) as STEAM Scholars for the 2024-2025 school year. The 36 students represent 14 different high schools across the 10th congressional district.
The Stevenson students honored include Amritha Praveen, Samarth Donapati, Rhubyn Letuchy, Shivaani Sivaraman, Jack Johnson and Samantha Pickard.
Drawing adds zip to the holidays
The more than 40 ZIPS Cleaners locations, including its location at 1531 Deerfield Pkwy. in Buffalo Grove, are participating in this year’s holiday stocking giveaway.
ZIPS Cleaners customers can enter by scanning the QR Code on the in-store holiday stocking giveaway flyer and enter to win a 6-foot stocking filled with a wide range of toys through Dec. 20.
Winners can choose to donate the stocking as well as well as its contents to a charity in exchange for a $50 gift card redeemable at any ZIPS Cleaners location.
A drawing will be held on Monday, Dec. 23. Winners will be announced the same day. No purchase is necessary.
