Board to discuss pet sales, comprehensive plan

Board Meeting -- The Buffalo Grove Village Board meets in a "Committee of the Whole" tonight at Village Hall.  The Agenda includes discussion on regulating pet sales and development of a comprehensive plan for the village. Details are at Committee of the Whole Agenda.

Landscape Waste Pickup Requirements -- Village residents are reminded about guidelines for yard waste collection: Landscape waste should be contained in 32-gallon special yard waste paper bags. Also acceptable are 32-gallon rigid, unlined waste containers marked with a large "X" (at least 12 inches in diameter so it can be seen from the truck). Acceptable items include: Grass clippings, leaves, vegetative plants, brush and small trees (brush and tree limbs up to 3.5 inches in diameter must be bundled in 4-foot lengths, tied with string or cloth, and not exceed 70 pounds in weight). Unacceptable items include Indoor plants, flower arrangements, trees larger than 3.5 inches in diameter, dirt or stones, sod and pine cones.

Have Coffee with a Cop – The Buffalo Grove Police Department will participate in National Coffee with a Cop Day from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. this Wednesday at the McDonald's, located at 1200 N. Arlington Heights Road. This national one-day event brings local police officers and citizens together - over coffee - to discuss community issues while building relationships in safe and friendly environment.

Buffalo Grove Park District commissioner positions available --  Three current Buffalo Grove Park District Commissioner positions for 4-year terms, and one unexpired 2-year term are open in the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election. Individuals interested in running for Buffalo Grove Park District Commissioner can now pick up petitions. The circulation period for petitions is open until December 17, 2018. Petitions can be picked up at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive in Buffalo Grove, Monday from 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon. Those interested must be a registered voter and have been a resident of the Buffalo Grove Park District for at least one year prior to the election.  For additional information, contact the Buffalo Grove Park District at 847-850-2100.

Police News

A 25-year-old Chicago woman was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) and Disorderly Conduct following a fight at Astoria Banquets Sept. 23.  Police reports say the woman was carrying a Smith & Wesson SD9 VE 9 mm, but did have a concealed carry permit. The fight, police say, began inside the facility before spilling into the parking lots. Officers from both the Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove police departments responded.
A 52-year-old Wheeling man was charged with Domestic Battery following an incident at the Shell station at Illinois Rt. 83 and Lake-Cook Road. Police reports indicate the incident stemmed from an argument between the man and his female companion in their Wheeling residence. Police reports and witnesses say the woman threw a liquid in the man’s face which led to a physical altercation in which the man reportedly wrestled the woman to the ground and repeatedly punched her in the face.
