Stevenson to celebrate international cultures




Stevenson High School’s World’s Fair, an annual two-day event hosted by the student club Diversity Council, is Stevenson’s celebration of the cultures, arts and cuisines at World’s Fair 2018-19 will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct.13-14 in the commons areas of the West Building. Admission is free and open to the public. Families and children are encouraged to attend this fun and educational cultural experience. Visitors should park in lot B and enter at the “Point” entrance. Village Board meets Monday night

Dist. 96 math night Monday
Residents can learn about District 96’s math curriculum at a district-wide elementary (K–5) grade-level Celebrate Math! Night for Parents & Students – 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15. The program will feature information about  the district’s math curriculum: Bridges in Mathematics. Following a brief presentation by District math coaches, parents will experience personally what math instruction looks like from your child's perspective. BGHS fall play Oct. 19
Buffalo Grove High School Theater Arts Program presents 44 plays in 88 minutes through the upcoming Fall Play, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind.  Performances are scheduled for Friday, October 19 at 7pm & Saturday, October 20 at 7pm.  Tickets cost $7.00 each and may be purchased at the door, or online in advance at: BG Fall Play

Park District Great Pumpkin Hunt & Decoration Oct. 20
The Park District is planning a pumpkin decorating event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.  All participants will start indoors for pumpkin decorating.  Following the pumpkin decorating, participants will enjoy a "pumpkin" egg hunt in the grassy backyard.  Everyone is invited to explore the Museum as well.  Pre-registration is required. Filing petitions for village elections available at Village Hall
Independent candidates can begin to gather signatures for petitions to run for one of five open seats on the Buffalo Grove Village Board in the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election.
Petitions can be obtained at Buffalo Grove Village Hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove, during regular business hours; Mondays from 8:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and Tuesday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Details are available at: Village election information

Israeli art exhibition and sale opens Thursday
An exhibition and sale of Israeli art will be October 18-21 at Congregation Beth Judea Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Am and Temple Chai. An opening reception is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, with exhibition hours set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 21. Hours on Saturday are from 7:30-10 p.m. and will feature wine, light appetizers and dessert. There is a $10 admission fee for the events on Thursday and Saturday.

Road closures on Buffalo Grove Road next week for paving work
The Lake County Department of Transportation (LCDOT) will be performing pavement maintenance on Buffalo Grove Road north of Lake Cook Road near St. Mary's Church beginning Oct. 15. There will be lane closures during the day, and work will last approximately three to four days, weather dependent. For questions please call LCDOT at (847) 377-7400.

Tree removal begins Monday
As part of the Lake Cook and Weiland road construction projects, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways and the Lake County Division of Transportation will begin the removal of isolated trees within the project corridor on Monday, October 15. Approximately 70 trees will be removed as part of this advanced work, and a majority will be in the area north of the Route 83 and Weiland Road intersection. Isolated trees will also be removed along Lake Cook Road, Weiland Road, St. Mary's Parkway, and Short Aptakisic Road. Short term, daily lane closures will be required during this work, which is expected to be completed by the end of October. Additional tree removal required for the projects will be performed in 2019 when construction begins in 2019.

Last Farmers Market is Sunday
The Buffalo Grove Farmers Market ends its season Sunday. The Farmers Market is at Mike Rylko Community Park, 951 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove, from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit the Buffalo Grove Farmers Market  Facebook page.
