Weapon, traffic charges filed – An 18-year-old Wheeling man was charged May 15 with Unlawful use of weapon, DUI, Illegal transportation of alcohol following an incident in the 239 block of Old Oak Court West. He is due in Cook County Circuit Court on June 18. Details of the incident leading to his arrest were not made available.
Men face resisting, traffic charges -- Two men, one 35 and one 38, were charged with multiple offenses following an incident in the early morning hours of May 15. The 35-year-old was charged with one count of resisting/obstructing a police officer while the other man was charged with resisting/obstructing a police officer, improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions, leaving the scene of an accident, and damage to village property. Details of the incident leading to the arrests were not made available.
Retail theft -- Police say a man stole 31 baseball cards with a minimum value of $395 from Chicagoland Sports Cards, 739 S. Buffalo Grove Rd. . The subject was identified and returned the stolen cards. He was issued a local ordinance ticket for retail theft.
Criminal damage to a vehicle – Police report that a car was keyed while parked at 70 S. Buffalo Grove Rd. between May 15 and 16. Additional details were not available.
A stylish theft – Police say a man stole a container of hair gel valued at $6.97 from Woodman’s, 1550 Deerfield Parkway on May 18.

Weekend slate of Pride events set
A flag raising, annual parade and Pride picnic highlight a weekend of Pride activities in Buffalo Grove.
The annual raising of Buffalo Grove’s pride flag is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31 at Ernie Karge, Rotary Village Green, 265 N. Buffalo Grove Rd.
The main event of the weekend is the seventh annual Family Friendly Pride Parade scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 1. The route will be the same as last year with the parade route going south on Buffalo Grove Rd. to Deerfield Parkway and then west. Organizers are expecting 100 entries. Following the parade, the Park District is hosting a Pride picnic in Mike Rylko Park from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Full details are available at this link.
Electronics recycling event Saturday
Itech recycling is sponsoring a free electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 31.
Collection will be at the intersection of Apple Hill and Waterbury Lanes in Buffalo Grove. In a posting on Facebook, Itech said they will collect a variety of items including desktop computer, laptops computer, tablets, server racks and servers.
They will also collect telecommunications devices including printed circuit boards, hard drives, optical drives and processors. Consumer electronics will also be collected.
Golf school expansion OK’d
Buffalo Grove trustees voted last week to approve the expansion of a private golf instruction facility at 1610-1612 Barclay Blvd.
The Chicago School of Golf has operated at the location since receiving a special use permit in 2017. Its expansion into a space next door will double the facility's footprint from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. --- Daily Herald

Long Grove trustees granted preliminary approval for a QuikTrip gas station on a 15-acre parcel at Routes 83 and 53. The site is adjacent to Buffalo Grove. For full coverage, see this story in the Daily Herald.
Community blood drive June 7
A community blood drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 pm. On Saturday, June 7 at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive. Donors are required to provide an ID. Storytime set
The Vernon Area Public Library is hosting Sun & Fun Storytime from 10 to 1030 a.m. on June 7, in the Library Learning Garden
The program is for children up to age and gives children and their parents a time to enjoy an outdoor storytime.

‘Caring Community’ nominations open
Nominations are now open for the village’s Caring Community Program which recognizes individuals, groups, organizations, and programs in Buffalo Grove that embody the community’s “Smart. With Heart” brand. Honorees are cited for outstanding contributions that enhance the quality of life, demonstrate leadership, and reflect the values of collaboration, compassion and innovation within Buffalo Grove and beyond.
Award recipients will be recognized at a Village Board meeting later this summer. Nominations are due by July 3 and can be made by filling out the form at this website.
Bill Reid Award nominations sought
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is seeking nominations for the 2024 Bill Reid Award. This award recognizes long-term community contributors whose efforts have resulted in the enhancement, betterment and improved spirit of the Buffalo Grove community.
Award recipients will be recognized at a public ceremony and will have their name inscribed on the award recognition plaque located in the Buffalo Grove Village Hall lobby. Also, a $250 contribution will be made to the charity of the award recipient’s choice in the recipient’s name, as well as a $250 contribution made in the recipient’s name to The Rotary Foundation. Chamber plans networking lunch
The Buffalo Grove Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a network lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3rd at Prairie House Tavern in Buffalo Grove.
This event is open to Chamber members and non-members. Registration fee is $21 for members and $25 for nonmembers.
Prairie House Tavern is providing four menu options at a special price with burgers to salads to wraps all available. The registration fee covers your meal and soft drink or iced tea.
