Fire Department urges residents to stay off the ice
Winter
is nearly here, and freezing temperatures have already been in the forecast.
Residents are reminded to avoid walking, skating or fishing on ponds, lakes and
other bodies of water as they begin to freeze, due to the real danger of
falling through the ice. While the stability of ice will increase as
temperatures drop, extreme caution should always be used when near to frozen
bodies of water. Water temperatures can become low enough to cause hypothermia
if a person were to fall in, which makes a self-rescue nearly impossible. If an
individual is observed going through the ice, do not try to rescue them by going into the water. Instead, throw
them something that floats, immediately call 911, and keep track of their
location under the ice to communicate it to emergency responders upon their
arrival - because every second counts. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department is
trained on a yearly basis to rescue individuals who have fallen through the
ice.
Buffalo
Grove Police participating in ‘Toys for Tots’
The
Buffalo Grove Police Department is once again partnering with the United States
Marine Corps and has begun its annual collection for the 'Toys for Tots'
program. New and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Buffalo Grove
Police Department, 46 Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove, through Sunday, Dec. 16.
The USMC will then pick up the toys and distribute them to those in need,
through community and religious groups, and social service agencies. Please
consider donating a toy today! Call the Buffalo Grove Police at 847-459-2560 or
click here for more information on
this annual giving program.
