Park District to completely shut down

A day after saying it would cancel all programs, but keep the golf dome and fitness center open, the Buffalo Grove Park District has decided to shut all facilities.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Park District said:

With today’s change in the CDC’s recommendations regarding mass gatherings - to cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States - the Buffalo Grove Park District has decided to now close all facilities effective Tuesday, March 17. The Fitness Center and Golf Dome will remain open through the end of Monday’s regularly scheduled hours, but will not reopen to the public beginning Tuesday, March 17.
We are planning on being shut down at least through Sunday, March 29; however, that could be extended longer. As those decisions are made, we will publicize those updates through our normal communication channels.

For those who are registered in programs, or have a membership at the Fitness Center, you do not need to do anything. You will not have to pay for any missed or cancelled programs, or days in which the Fitness Center is not available. Refunds or account credits will unilaterally be issued by the Park District; however, because this a manual process that is being conducted on a huge scale, please allow at least 30 days for these to be processed to all necessary accounts.

Please note: The Alcott Center will be open on Tuesday, March 17 as an election polling place. People coming to vote will be the only ones permitted in the building.

Liquor store burgled / BG Days set / Contested Board race looms

Retail burglary –  Police report that officers responded to an alarm at Dev Liquors, 1170 McHenry Road. Upon arrival, reports say officers observed two vehicles pulling out of the parking lot. Officers pursued the vehicles at a high rate of speed on McHenry Road, but, say reports, were unable to apprehend them. Reports say the front window of the store was smashed and items inside were in disarray. Retail theft –  Police were summoned to Woodman’s Market, 1550 Deerfield Pkwy. in response to a complaint of a person stealing items. Police did not identify the person nor the items taken. The department did, however, say the person was charged with retail theft and criminal trespass to “real” property.   Robbery – Police are continuing their investigation into a robbery in the 1200 Block of Johnson Drive. Reports say the victim told police he was robbed while exiting his vehicle while it was parked in a parking space near his residence. The victim, who was not seriously injured, said two male subjects dressed in hoodies took personal items from him. Police say the two left the scene in a black SUV before they arrived. Theft – A resident in the 400 block of Raphael told police – that a battery was stolen from her front lawn. She told police she saw an unknown male grab the battery and leave in a gray pickup truck. Theft – Police say a resident in the 10 block of Canterbury Lane told them that a woman walked up to the door of a residence and took a package that had been delivered.
